TITLE: Speech/Language Pathologist - Paraprofessional (School-based)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing support for Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) and related students in classrooms and other instructional situations. Develops professional relationships among school staff and related special education team and family members under the supervision and partnership with the SLP.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates and consults with the Speech Language Pathologist, special education and regular education teachers in providing educational/instructional services to students receiving speech/language services as directed by the SLP.
- Assists with instruction designed by the SLP and other activities in self-contained, resource and regular education classrooms, one on one and small groups.
- Implements instruction designed by the SLP and collects appropriate data on students progress in small group and on one on one sessions.
- Assists in material development for planned lessons as directed by the SLP, this may include programming assistive technology devices, making picture schedules and communication boards.
- Supervises special education students as needed which may include in the lunchroom, on field trips, and on the playground.
- Interacts and corresponds appropriately with parents and other staff regarding staffing and other activities. Directs all questions about students skills and progress to the SLP.
- Provides clerical support in a variety of functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by the SLP.
Candidate Profile
Education and Certification:
High School graduate (required)
Experience and Skills:
- Preferably at least 1 year of experience working in a position that clearly links and connects with the skills outlined above.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- General office equipment
- Technical proficiency in word processing and computers
- May require knowledge of specialized equipment depending on assignment
- May require CPR or First Aid certification
