JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Special Education Nurse for students with disabilities: Summer ESY (Extended School Year)
LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: Monday through Thursday
8:00 am to 11:30 pm
June 12th to July 20st, 2023 in Cortez excluding 7/4
June 19th to July 28th, 2023 in Pagosa excluding 7/4
SALARY: TBD based on experience
STARTING DATE: June 12, 2023 in Cortez, June 20th, 2023 in Pagosa
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma, LPN, and medical experience working with children with disabilities
JOB GOAL: To assist special education students throughout the region with health care needs and related services while they attend summer programming, under the direction of the ESY special education teacher and coordinator.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Assist with expanding students’ communication skills, using sign language, adaptive technology devices, and computers, as designed by a licensed therapist or teacher.
- Assist with motor skills development program as designed by licensed therapists.
- Assist students on/off school buses, with feeding, toileting, positioning, wheelchair transfer, hygiene, and cleanliness.
- Assist in carrying out behavior modification programs.
- Facilitate students’ active participation with peers.
- Perform clerical duties, prepare/organize classroom materials, and clean workspace.
- Exhibits effective communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
- Participates as a cooperative team member.
