POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title:

San Juan BOCES Family Engagement Ambassador

Job Description:

The San Juan Board of Cooperative Educational Services is seeking a Family Engagement Ambassador to support positive and productive family partnerships in order to support student success.  This position will be approximately 20 hours/month with a flexible schedule. The purpose of this position to for the SJ BOCES to improve our ability to engage and communicate with families of students with exceptional needs.

Duties will include:

• Advisement to the SJ BOCES leadership on Family Engagement practices, including the IEP process and communication.
• Work with a team of professionals to create and maintain a parent handbook for special education process and community resources.
• Create communication systems for families to be notified of important events and trainings.
• Facilitate Special Education Advisory Committee meetings with individual families.
• Be a ‘mentor’ or resource for families as needed.

Position Requirements:

• Knowledge and experience with special education services and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong computer skills.
• Ability to work with diverse people, communities, and cultures, with an understanding of cultural awareness practices.
• Be able to articulate the experience and perspective of a parent or relative of a child/youth with complex needs.
• Ability to maintain standards of confidentiality.
• Ability to maintain positive working relationships in a respectful and collaborative manner.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Commitment to professional growth.

Qualifications:

• Resident of a San Juan BOCES member service area (Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma and San Juan Counties)
• High school graduate
• Valid Colorado  State driver’s license and proof of insurance required.
• Must pass criminal background check.

Compensation:

• 12 month position
• Up to 20 hours/month
• $20/hour
