TITLE: Early Childhood Special Educator
LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: 181 days consistent with the school calendar
SALARY: Salary Schedule
STARTING DATE: 2023-2024 School Year
QUALIFICATIONS:
- CDE Licensure in Early Childhood Special \Education and related services
JOB GOAL:
The function of the Early Childhood Special Educator (ECSE) is to provide itinerant special education, assessment services, and case management to preschool students with disabilities, three to five years of age in the assigned San Juan BOCES member school districts. The ECSE also provides assessment for children with suspected disabilities for children referred to San Juan/SW Kids, for Part C services.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage assigned caseload of preschool children who have been identified with disabilities which would include but not be limited to;
- implementation of a free and appropriate education, in the least restrictive environment (LRE) for eligible children identified with a disability
- maintain supporting documentation for the provision of services under IDEA and ECEA
- coordinate related services as written in individualized IEP plans
- provide staff and parent consultation related to early childhood children as needs are identified
- make recommendations to the Child Find Coordinator and/or the Director of Special Education regarding improved practice or site/staff training needs.
- Provide consultation to all assigned preschool sites where children with disabilities are assigned;
- Serve as a multidisciplinary team member with assigned students;
- Write and review assigned IEP’s;
- Support the implementation of standards driven early childhood curriculum in assigned sites;
- Supervise BOCES funded paraprofessionals in assigned sites;
- Other duties may be assigned by supervisor.
