TITLE:

High School Assistant Cheerleading Coach

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience in the sport of cheerleading is highly preferred, but is not required
  2. Good communication and organizational skills
  3. Ability to positively and professionally motivate and engage student-athletes
  4. Current or be able to obtain First Aide, CPR and AED certification prior to coaching student-athletes
  5. Qualify for district transportation certification to transport student-athletes
  6. Qualify for CHSAA Certification and complete prior to coaching student-athletes
  7. Qualify for Archuleta School District 50 Joint employment based on a background check
  8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work requires periods of light to medium physical activity and requires long periods of time standing and/or walking.  Most of the work requires the physical demands of coaching the fundamentals of the sport of cheerleading.

 

REPORTS TO: 

  • Head Cheerleading Coach
  • Pagosa Springs High School Athletic Director/Assistant Principal, and Principal, or person designated by the Board or the superintendent

 

JOB GOAL:         

To assist coaching student-athletes in competitive and game-day cheerleading techniques to prepare them for game days and competition and to motivate student-athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport of cheerleading

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:         

  1. Participates in organizational meetings for team prospects and parents and encourages students to participate.
  2. Maintains standards of behavior and team rules/guidelines that are given to parents and players in written and verbal forms.
  3. Holds students accountable to the information provided in the PSHS Student-Athlete and Activity Handbook.
  4. Coaches and instructs cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport of cheerleading.
  5. Works with cheerleaders during practices, games and competitions to assess skills and assigns team positions.
  6. Observes cheerleaders, during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  7. Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  8. Works with the Head Coach and Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
  9. Holds conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of their student.
  10. Provides proper supervision of cheerleaders at all times.
  11. Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
  12. Follows established procedures in the event of an injury.
  13. Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the sport of cheerleading.
  14. Models positive sportsmanship and maintains appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
  15. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  16. Acts as a team representative and promotes cheerleading by communicating with the news media, booster club, service clubs, and other organizations.
  17. Follows established procedures for ordering and maintaining equipment, supplies and uniforms.
  18. Maintains an accurate annual inventory of equipment, supplies and uniforms.
  19. Maintains emergency data cards.
  20. Maintains an accurate, up to date budget of both fundraised monies and the District cheerleading budget.
  21. Works with the Athletic Director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
  22. Assists the Head Coach with a summer cheerleading camp.
  23. Assists the Head Coach with a summer cheerleading program that may include weight training, skill development, cheerleading competition, and physical conditioning.
  24. Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  25. Participates in special activities that may include senior night, team dinners, end of the year banquet, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  26. Participates in a school-wide student-athlete character development program.
  27. Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Principal.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:          

                       Salary:          $2,814 per school year plus additional pay for longevity, number of athletes, Final Four, State

                                           Championship, extended season and student academic success.

          Work Schedule:          As designated by the CHSAA sports seasons and the Athletic Director

                    Benefits:          None

                       Hours:          As designated by the Athletic Director

             FLSA Status:          Non-exempt/classified

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School District Board's policy on athletic evaluation.
