POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Licensed Teacher Content Area Specialist– Southwest Colorado eSchool
Work Year: 9 months, 0.6 FTE
Department: Southwest Colorado eSchool
Location: Position works out of the Durango eSchool office
Reports To: Principal, Southwest Colorado eSchool
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is focused ELA and Social Studies support for SWC eSchool students within the San Juan BOCES coverage area. As the ELA/SS content area specialist, this position supports student needs in their scheduled ELA and SS classes. In the supporting role, this position serves students directly with tutoring support and other duties as assigned. The position also advises the school’s small student leadership group in the planning coordination of regional activities for eSchool students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
A. Student Center and Content Area Specialist Responsibilities
- Monitor/document student course performance in ELA and Social Studies courses.
- Contact students/parents of students with grades below 70% to implement support.
- Utilize Schoology to monitor student course performance.
- Keep abreast of course expectations and progression and work with online teachers as necessary.
- Tutor students accordingly, both in-person and remotely.
- Maintain an orderly, positive learning environment implementing proactive student management strategies and enforcing the Student Conduct Code. Supervise students in the Student Center and on school activities to minimize potential accidents and disciplinary situations.
- Model, promote, and instruct, when needed, appropriate character education including digital citizenship, responsible behavior (respect for self, other and property), bullying and cyberbullying behavior, conflict resolution, and responsible work habits and ethics.
B. Licensed Teacher Responsibilities
- Utilize effective online instructional strategies and management techniques to support students in an online class.
- Communicate regularly with students and parents concerning performance concerns.
C. Other Responsibilities
- Implement a National Honor Society program for the SWC eSchool beginning in the 2019-20 school year.
- Develop and manage the SWC eSchool internship program.
- Advise the Student Council for weekly meetings to organize school events, activities, and recognitions.
- Assist with other school responsibilities such as student recruitment, advising, state testing requirements, and graduation.
- Be familiar and abide by all applicable Federal and Colorado laws and regulations, board policies, and school procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree (minimum) from an accredited university.
- Colorado Teaching License with secondary endorsement.
- Experience in online course instruction or development preferred.
- Experience working with a variety of technology tools, software applications, and online systems.
- Successful experience working with students in a learning environment, online environment experience preferred.

- Ability to develop and implement engaging lessons that facilitate student mastery of the Colorado Academic Standards.

- Ability to work and contribute to small teams from various and remote locations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Ability to utilize formative and summative assessments to access student learning.
- Ability to implement IEP’s, 504’s, and behavior support plans.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE
- Comfort with computer operating systems including basic troubleshooting.
- Comfort with and ability to support basic student use of Google applications.
- Familiarity with student information systems, learning management systems, and student data centers (Alpine Achievement)
