Dear Applicant,
Thank you for applying for the Substitute Teacher and/or Para/Secretary. The first step to substituting as a teacher in our district is to have a Colorado Teaching License or a Colorado Substitute License.
If you have a high school diploma you will apply for a one year substitute license. If you have a Bachelors degree you can apply for a three year license. If you are a retired teacher or a teacher from another state you can apply for a five year substitute license.
You will need to go on line to the Colorado Department of Education website www.cde.state.co.us and apply for your license. The cost of a one year substitute license is $40.00 per year plus a onetime fee of $39.50 for processing your fingerprints and $10.00 to have your fingerprints taken. The three year license and five year license is $80.00 plus the $39.50 for processing your fingerprints and $10.00 to have your fingerprints taken. Once you work for the district for ten days we will reimburse the fee for the license and the fingerprinting process, but not the $10.00 for having them taken.
Once you have applied for your license and you should print the receipt for proof of payment then we can start the process to get you on the substitute list as a teacher.
After you have applied and paid for the license you will need to come into the office at 400 N. Elm St., Cortez, CO to fill out paperwork for payroll and to watch a 45 minute mandatory video.
We will need a copy of your driver license and social security card or a copy of your passport.
If you want to be a para/secretary substitute you just need to come to 400 N. Elm St. and pick up a fingerprint card (which will cost you $10.00) and the paperwork for payroll and to watch the mandatory video. One year license holders get paid $75.00 a day, three year, five year and certified license holders will get paid $80.00 a day. Para/secretary substitutes will get paid minimum wage. Our paydays are on the 25th of each month.
